Reflections this week

September 21, 2007

What did I learn this week?  I will tell you that working as a Computer Lab Manager in the College of Education, I don’t actually do the ordering of the computers for my department.  But, completing Module 4 assignments were not too difficult for me because I was familiar with the process of what to order and how to order.  Basically, I had to reflect back to my training 3 year ago.  I rememered how to place an order.  My job assignment is totally different from three year ago.

M4 Blog My Personal Computer

September 21, 2007

If given the opportunity to choose any kind of computer, peripherals, operating system and application software, what would you select?  Explain why and how you would use it.

 $1,499

XPS TM (M1330 Notebook)

Stay Connected virtually anywhere Wi-Fi, and mobile broadband3 optionsAvailable Slot Load and Blu-Ray optical drives, biometric finger print readers and more

Includes 1 yr LoJack for Laptops4; 15 months of security software5 and 10GB of Online Backup

I would purchase the Microsoft Windows XP with the antivirus software.  The package would include Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint, Publisher and Internet Explorer which is the standard web browser and a wireless network card which is needed to access to other wireless network.

I am the type of person that is always taking work home to work on.  If I do this, I can’t take the computer from the office home nor do I like sitting in one place all the time working. For example, I have three computers at home, I don’t like working in the same room.  I think better in different rooms at my home. Therefore, I have to have a laptop to maneuver around.  I would use it to work on collaborative projects and take notes from business meetings, complete assignments. A laptop is very convenient for me because it allows me to take the computer anywhere.  I am an outdoor person and I love using the laptop to do work outside on the patio. Another reason why I would choose to purchase a laptop is because if space is limited, a laptop does not need a dedicated work area.  I can pack it up an keep moving.  Also, if I wanted internet access with my laptop.

E Books used in the classroom

September 19, 2007

M5Blog: Personal Blog·        Answer the following question(s) on your personal blog: How could ebooks be used in your classroom? Give specific examples and links to resources.

I would used ebooks in my classroom as a device to further students interest in learning for them to use their ebook as their daily planner. Listing when assignments are due, and writing the directions in the Memo Pad section. Students would also be able to rank their task lists as to prioritize tasks. As a teacher, I would be able to beam the directions and due dates to students who miss class, or they can get them from other students.  For instance if I was teaching a math class, students can do math work on the notepad, explain it in the task list or memo pad, step by step, and then beam their work to another student and through conversation figure out different methods for solving similar problems. Oh, I can use ebooks in all my classes.  Can you imagine having every thing that you need at your fingertips. I might have to do a little bit more monitoring in the class at first to make sure that students are doing what they are supposed to do.  I think that the parents can benefit as well from using ebooks to monitor the status of students.

All I know is that October is going to definitely be a better month for me.  August and September were recovering months.  But, I feel that I am ready now.  Also, Mrs. Johnson, I redid assignments M2A2 Timeline and M2A1 Bake Sale Flyer.  I sent it to your email so that you will know that I completed the assigment on today.  I tried to resend it through the assignment slot but I was not clear to post again.

M3 Blog DID Model Lesson Plan

September 17, 2007

I was looking at Carla Johnson lesson plan using the DID Model lesson plan.  The students will be able to describe a famous theatre or museum and word process a brochure describing that building.   Technology will play a vital role in getting the point across in this lesson.  Powerpoint slide can be used to find pictures.  I would search search the internet on museums and theater.  With powerpoint, you can use different designs to enhance the pictures.  Maybe even use 3-D to bring different effective highlights to add glamour to older pictures of museums.

Module 2 Assignment

September 14, 2007

I am just thinking out loud.  But, I wonder did Mrs. Johnson get my 300 words or less assignment on teacher vs student.  I have been on this computer since 1:45 pm.  I am a little tired now.  I have to go back and place the heating pad on my stomach for 35 minutes. I am very much sore.  But, I am doing well.  Thanks be to God.
